ROUTER TABLE

The top was formed from two pieces of 3/4" MDF glued together. Edges are 1"x 2" which is actually 3/4" x 1 1/2".

The edges are glued and screwed to the MDF.

Notches in the MDF and elongated goles in one edge allow bolting to the cast iron top of the table saw.

This shows how the top bolts to the table saw.

After everyting is assembled a piece of formica is glued to the top to provide a smooth slick surface.

A template was made from hardboard using the outline of the router plate insert. The template was then clamped to

the top and a 3/4" router bit with a bearing at the top was used to start cutting out the hole.

After the routing was finished on the top, a hole was drilled and the bit router bit changed to a 1/4" with the bearing on the bottom.

The router can now use the existing slot to complete cutting out the hole.

The miter/t-track is clamped upside down to the board to provide a reference to cut the slot.

Since the track is wider than the 3/4" bit, multiple passes had to be made to make it fit.

The completed top with fence and plate/router installed.

Additional holes were drilled in the wings of the table saw to permit screws to support the new table.

The completed project.
